VESAK FESTIVAL

     Vesak is an important religious festival. The Buddhists celebrate it with great devotion. If falls on the full moon day of May.

     Vesak commemorates the birth, enlightenment and the passing away of the Lord Buddha. People prepare them selves for this festival for several days. Adults and children get together and make Vesak Lanterns. They decorate their homes with paper streamers. In towns and cities, people put up pandols depiciting Jathaka stories.

     The Buddhists engage in various religious on the Vesak Day. Many people go on pilgrimages. Devotees go to their nearest temple and observe sil. Many people and organizations give alms to temples, children's homes and homes for the aged. In the night, parents and children hang vesak lanterns and buckets and light candles in them. Then they go to temple and offer flowers. They also go to town to see Vesak illuminations. Religious festivals help us to develop moral values.

The Kandy Perahara

 The kandy perahera is a famous procession. It is in the month of August. The procession parades through the city for seven days.   This is a beautiful procession. Colorfully dressed elephants ara a special feature of it. The chief elephant of the Dalada Maligawa carries the casket of the sacred Tooth Relic. Various groups of people walk with the elephants. The whip crackers lead the procession. The other groups such as dancers, drummers, flag bearers and stilt walkers follow them. The torch bearers are very important because the procession parades at night.    The Kandy Perahara is a procession of the Dalada Maligawa. The Diyawadana Nilame is it's guardian. He is responsible for conducting the perahera every year. Lots of people come to Kandy to see the perahera. It ends with the water cutting ceremony. The Kandy Perahara is an important event of our culture.

MY PET

    ❤My pet is a dog. It's name is Timi. It is brown colour. It's four years old. It is Gearman shepherd dog. It has a black snout and a bushy tail. It's favourite food is rice and curry. Timi has a kennel. It has a black collar. Timi  dosen't sleep at night when it sees a stranger, it barks loudly. It plays with me in the evening. When I am at home. It is happy as it protects us and our properties, I love my pet very much.❤
